José Luis Aróstegui Plaza, Principal Investigator (PI1) of the TCIEM project, and two other members, Mercedes Castillo Ferreira and Antonio Fernández Jiménez, undertook a research stay in Italy for a few days in April. The research centre was the Università degli Studi di Roma Tor Vergata, where Giuseppe Sellari, a renowned researcher in music education and also a member of the TCIEM project, is a professor.
During the stay, the results obtained within the framework of the TCIEM project were validated through peer discussion, and it was also an excellent opportunity to make progress on the joint drafting of scientific materials and working documents in preparation for the final phase of the project. Furthermore, during the visit, José Luis Aróstegui Plaza delivered a seminar for PhD students and researchers in education on the methodologies and research findings obtained within the project regarding transversal competences and interdisciplinary projects in music education.
Meanwhile, Mercedes Castillo Ferreira and Antonio Fernández Jiménez led a theory-practice workshop on inclusive music education, in which
they presented the inclusive approach that can be developed through music education using various methodologies, such as that proposed by TCIEM or that derived from active music methodologies. This educational session was aimed at students on the support teacher training course entitled ‘Special teaching methods in relation to subject-specific teaching methods: music and choral singing as an inclusive learning environment’.
The various activities carried out during the visit aroused great interest among all participants, and these contributions proved very useful for research within the framework of the TCIEM project, as well as for its dissemination in the Italian context.
